The Sound of Silence

Y’know lately when I go out running, I’ve been keeping it real simple: shorts, shoes and keys. No shirt, no water bottle, and no iPod. Not that I’m revolutionizing the world or anything, not wearing a shirt when it’s super hot is kinda a no-brainer. But running without music has been an interesting experience. I’ve done it before, of course, in short bursts here and there, but this is the first time I’ve committed to it for any length of time. And the results?

I dunno, good?

Took some extra time off this weekend to try and combat the whole “overtraining and fatigue” thing I’ve been dealing with. And let me tell you, and extra’s day’s rest can be a wonderful thing. Hey gang! Running along a sunny path next to the sunny river on this sunny, sunny morning reminded me it is totally the (sunny) summer. So today’s song should be a bona-fide summerjam classic: A Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It?”:

Well, fortunately for me, my sleep-deprivation delirium has largely abated. Now it’s back to being crazy for no good damn reason, which is waaay better(?). To celebrate, I did some hill sprints this (relatively) cool morning (y’know, only like 79 degrees). What did I discover? Hill sprints still suck. Oh man. Plus I almost got run over by at least 15 trillion cyclists, so that was cool. Man, I hate bike people. Thinking they’re all the Fresh Prince’s of the running path and whatnot.

Okay that didn’t really make sense. It is possible I’m still a little tired.  So on that note, I leave you for the weekend. Take it easy, guys!

Guys, I’m not gonna lie. I am pretty damned sleep deprived right now. Blame my neighborhood’s recent War on Sleep, culminating last in a 12 hour long (5pm to 5am) fireworks extravaganza. You try sleeping when there’s a series of loud explosions every 5-7 minutes until the sun comes up. Not pretty. So hey, this is the song I figured would be fun to run to today.
